66-year-old linked to Liverpool takeover is twice as wealthy as Mark Zuckerberg

Steve Ballmer could reportedly be among those interested in buying Liverpool.

Earlier this week, Fenway Sports Group dropped a bombshell by revealing that they would be opening to selling the Anfield outfit.

Since then, there’s been a lot of reported interest, with even Conor McGregor admitting that he has reached out to discuss a potential takeover.

The 66-year-old is a former CEO of Microsoft who has branched out into sport-related endeavours.

The Detroit-born billionaire owns NBA outfit Los Angeles Clippers and in 2020, was voted the best owner in basketball following a survey by The Athletic.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which is updated at the end of each trading day in New York, Ballmer is worth a staggering £85 billion.

For context, Ballmer, who is 10th on that list of world’s wealthiest people, is twice as comfortable as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, only worth a measly £41.4 billion and is 27th in the same list.

It remains to be seen if the links to Liverpool are credible and, honestly, there’s going to be a lot more interested parties who get written about between now and a sale by FSG.

But if he was voted best owner in basketball then his record of ownership in sports must be relatively decent and that’ll no doubt appeal to the millions who support Jurgen Klopp’s side.
