Afrobeat Category To Be Added To Grammy Awards – CEO Confirms

The CEO of the GRAMMY Awards, Harvey Mason Jr., was contacted by the media and stated that preparations are being made to incorporate the Afrobeat genre in the Academy Awards.

Beninese singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo topped Burna Boy in the “World Music” category of the 2019 Academy Awards.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell and other celebrities used the Grammy organizers to reflect on their views of “World Music” and the acceptance of the Afrobeat music genre as a result of his defeat, starting a discussion online.

Harvey stated that in order to ensure Afrobeat music as a Grammy category, a review and board meetings have been held to that intent, and more would be planned in the upcoming months.

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Grammy Awards, is now in Ghana in preparation for the 13th annual Grow, Unite, Build Africa (GUBA) Awards, which are scheduled for September 29, 2022.

On his trip to Ghana, the music executive will interact with certain members of the music community and musicians.
