Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the World Cup in a huge blow to France’s chances in Qatar.
According to numerous sources in France, the Real Madrid forward and current Ballon d’Or winner injured his thigh during a training session with Les Bleus on Saturday evening. Following an assessment, it was concluded that he will miss the tournament.
Benzema had been dealing with a hamstring problem, but it is a tear in his left thigh that puts an end to his World Cup hopes, according to Goal France. The session went on as planned for the 34-year-old, but he was taken afterwards for an MRI at the Aspetar Hospital in Doha, where his worst fears were confirmed.

“I am extremely sad for Karim who made this World Cup a major goal. Despite this new blow for the French team, I have full confidence in my group. We will do everything to meet the huge challenges that awaits us”, Deschamps said.
The France team are already missing the service of Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante and Christopher Nkunku through injury and this will only weaken their squad further.
