He will likely be most known for his performance as Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, which delighted audiences worldwide and resulted in a steady trickle of fan mail for more than 20 years, according to Wright.

She continued, “For me personally, I will remember him as an enduringly devoted client.” He was not just a fantastic actor, but also forensically smart and incredibly humorous. After 40 years of being honored to be his agent, I shall miss him.

According to a statement posted to the official Harry Potter film Twitter account, “We are tremendously saddened to hear of the passing of the brilliant Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid with such warmth, heart, and humor in the Harry Potter films.” He was a great performer and a friend to everyone. He will be sorely missed.

In 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Coltrane made his acting debut as Rubeus Hagrid, the half-giant groundskeeper and future Care of Magical Creatures professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Through all seven of the films in the series, the Scotsman remained in the part. Due to his character’s relationship to the titular young wizard, played by Daniel Radcliffe, Coltrane was adored by the Harry Potter fanbase.

For the 20th anniversary HBO Max special Return to Hogwarts for the Harry Potter film series, Coltrane reconnected with many of his co-stars. Coltrane discussed the legacy of the movies and his final day on set in one footage, which has only grown more moving in light of the actor’s loss.

He stated in the program, “I just think it’s the end of an era. “I’ve been alive for ten years, and naturally, my kids have grown up during that time. My children’s generation will pass on the movies to their children, so you might be seeing them in 50 years.”

Sadly, he added with a chuckle, “I won’t be here. “However, Hagrid will. Yes.”

Coltrane was well-known outside of the Harry Potter universe for his work on the James Bond films and for his part as Dr. Edward “Fitz” Fitzgerald in the British crime drama Cracker, which aired from 1993 to 2006. In 1995’s GoldenEye and again in 1999’s The World Is Not Enough, both of which starred Pierce Brosnan as Agent 007., he played Russian mafia boss Valentin Zukovsky.

Coltrane “had such breadth and depth as an actor, from fantastic comedy to hard-edge drama,” according to Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland.

Spencer, Alice, and Coltrane’s sister Annie Rae, as well as his ex-wife and children’s mother Rhona Gemmell, survive him.
