Roberto Martinez reaches ‘verbal agreement’ to become Portugal head coach

Roberto Martinez has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Portugal to become their new head coach weeks after his exit as Belgium’s coach, following the country’s poor performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The former Wigan Athletic and Everton’s coach reportedly had offers from clubs and other international teams after leaving Belgium.

However, The Athletic reported that Martinez has now reached an agreement with Portugal who parted ways with the national team’s coach, Fernando Santos, after their quater-final defeat to Morocco in the FIFA Men’s World Cup.

The agreement between Martinez and Portugal is expected to be finalized by the end of the week, with an announcement coming shortly after.
