Will Smith’s Ex-Wife Hopes Fans Forgive Him After Oscars Slap: ‘I Stand in Support’

“I hope people give him the opportunity to be human,” ex-wife Sheree Zampino remarked after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in March.

Sheree Zampino has come out in “support” of her ex-husband Will Smith.
Almost five months after Smith, 53, hit Chris Rock across the face at the 94th Academy Awards, Smith’s ex-wife Zampino — with whom Smith was married from 1992 to 1995 and shares son Trey Smith, 29 — told The Daily Mail that she supports her ex.

“I hope people let [Will] be human,” Zampino stated. “I truly hope so because I support him and we’re on good terms.”
“You can’t heal unless you forgive,” she added.
Smith stepped onto the stage in March and slapped Rock, 57, after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. (The actress, 50, suffers from baldness.)

The Best Actor winner resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was barred from attending Academy events for ten years as a result of his outburst.
The next day, the King Richard actor apologized to Rock in an Instagram message before publishing an apologetic video on his social media sites on July 29, describing what happened that night and apologizing personally to Rock and his family.
Smith claimed he reached out to Rock personally and received a response saying Rock was “not ready to chat.”
The day after the Oscars, Zampino shared a picture of herself clutching Smith’s golden award while they both grinned.

In the caption, she added: “Epic Evening! Once again, congratulations. When 1 wins, we all win. #family1st.”
Zampino recently stated of her ex, “He gives so abundantly, he puts love into everything he does, he’s so courteous so nice,” in comments to DM.
