Real Madrid and France forward, Karim Benzema could make a surprising return to the national team’s squad at the 2022 World Cup.
The Ballon d’Or winner had initially been ruled out through injury during training session. He was then expected to miss the entire tournament with a thigh problem.
France head coach, Didier Deschamps, opted not to call up a replacement and has continued with Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Marcus Thuram and Kingsley Coman.
However, RMC Sport claims that the 34-year-old could still return to the France squad as he returns to full training this week at Real Madrid.
Benzema could be fit enough to take part in the knockout stages of the World Cup.
FIFA rules permit players to return to their squads if they recover from injury if they had initially been named in the tournament squad before being ruled out.
